At the invitation of the Chinese Football Association, the Myanmar women’s national football team will compete in the Four Nations Women’s Football Invitational Cup, which will be held from 4 to 12 November in Chongqing, China, according to a statement issued by the Myanmar Football Federation.
Team Myanmar will gain much experience, as it will face Brazil, which is placed 10th in FIFA ranking, during the tourney, according to officials.
The Brazil women’s team finished the 1999 World Cup in the third place, and was ranked second in 2007, losing to Germany in the final by 2–0. Brazil also won the silver medal twice in the Olympic Games — in 2004 and 2008.
Currently, team Myanmar is placed 46th in FIFA ranking. During the tourney, Myanmar will play three world-level teams: Brazil, host China, and New Zealand.
Host China team is 16th in FIFA ranking, and is one of the strongest women’s football teams in Asia.
New Zealand team’s FIFA ranking is 23, and the team had even qualified for the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which was held in China.
The competition with world class teams will help prepare team Myanmar for the upcoming 2019 South East Asian Games, which will be held from 25 November to 9 December at the Binan Football Stadium in Laguna, the Philippines, according to the Myanmar Football Federation.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
