Visitors throng Shan Yoma elephant resort

Visitors feed an elephant at the Shan Yoma elephant resort in Nan Pan Tat Village, Kalaw Township.

Travellers are showing a keen interest to visit the Shan Yoma elephant resort, located near Nan Pan Tat Village, Kalaw Township.
The Shan Yoma elephant resort opened in April and saw few visitors initially. With more visitors hearing about the resort, many are now thronging the place.
Myanmar nationals must pay an entrance fee of Ks1,000 and Ks3,000 to ride the elephants. Foreign tourists are charged Ks20,000 each as entrance and riding elephant fees, said a staff of the resort.
The Shan Yoma elephant resort is situated some 70 miles away from Meiktila town. The Shan Yoma elephant resort has built a small bamboo enclosure as a sitting area for family visitors. Visitors can ride elephants, click photographs on the stones and frolic in the water of the mountain torrent.
The Shan Yoma elephant resort was opened by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation and the Myanma Timber Enterprise to promote elephant conservation.
The Shan Yoma elephant resort is operating with 10 elephants. Visitors can also ride and feed elephants at the resort.
