Union Minister visits flood victims in Kyaikto

RAINS this month drove locals from some wards and villages of Kyaikto Township, Mon State, south of Yangon, to temporary relief camps visited yesterday by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye.
“Myanmar has become a country where natural disasters are common,” the Union Minister said at one of the relief camps. “We are facing shortage of investment and technological weakness in disaster preparedness and prevention,” he said.
Accompanied by Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan, the Union Minister visited Tawya Monastery, which has been turned into a temporary relief camp for flood victims.
The Union Minister delivered eggs, rice, canned fish, bottled water and children’s toys.
At the town administration department, the Union Minister and met with the chief minister and other officials to discuss disaster prevention measures. He also presented Ks12.5 million to buy five motorized fiber boats, 150 lifejackets, two motorboat engines, five tents, and five sets of walkie talkies.—Myanmar News Agency
