UEC reminds election observers, voters to observe secret voting system

THE Union Election Commission has reminded election observers that they should not ask voters which party they voted for within 15 yards of a polling station, in line with the secret voting system.
The statement released on Wednesday also reminded voters not to respond if they are asked which candidate they voted for or to voluntarily tell others which candidate they voted because such actions can be considered canvassing.
The UEC’s statement also quoted Section 61 of the Hluttaw Election Law, which prohibits: canvassing; soliciting a voter to vote for a particular candidate;and exhorting or inducing a voter not to vote for a candidate.
According to the law, whoever is found guilty of committing one of these acts inside the polling booth or within a radius of 500 yards of the polling booth on the election day shall, on conviction, be punishable with imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or with a fine not exceeding K100,000, or both.— Myanmar News Agency
