UEC, DIPD sign MoU to support multi-party system, democracy in Myanmar

A ceremony to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Union Election Commission (UEC) and Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy (DIPD) was held yesterday afternoon in UEC Office, Nay Pyi Taw.
It was attended by UEC Chairman U Hla Thein, members U Soe Rae, U Tun Khin U Hla Tint, U Myint Naing, U Than Htay and officials from the office of the commission.
At the event, UEC Chairman said the UEC is carrying out its tasks to meet with international standard through cooperation with international organisations.
The commission had cooperated with DIPD in the past , said U Hla Thein, saying that DIPD conducted training courses for Hluttaw representative candidates and arranged a trip to Denmark to study municipal election .
Next DIPD Chairperson of Board of Director Mr. Henrik Bach Mortensen said DIPD is jointly supported and assisted by Danish political parties.
It will support the cooperative capacity of political parties in Myanmar’s match toward a democracy system and more participation of women. Afterwards, UEC Office Director General U Khin Maung Oo and DIPD Director Mr. Rasmus Helveg Petersen signed and exchanged the MoU it is learnt. — Myanmar News Agency
