The World deserves our gratitude

Most of us mechanically and subconsciously mouth the words ‘Thank You’ in everyday interactions. Ancient Greek fabulist story teller Aesop wrote ‘Gratitude is the sign of noble souls’. Making special efforts to thank those that deserve our gratitude is a humane manner.
Both living things and many inanimate objects around us deserve our gratitude in various levels. Therefore, we should not forget to give heartfelt thanks to those around us that specially deserve our appreciation.
We can instinctively regard those who gave us moral or material support as our benefactors. However, it is mostly impossible to acknowledge our adversaries or challenging situations.
In an optimistic view, even our enemies deserve our gratitude as their possible threats could make us mindful of our weakness. Natural disasters have pushed us to create a safer environment. Alerted by epidemic diseases, we have tried to find more hygienic lifestyles.
Contrary to humane manners, ingratitude is one of the basest qualities of a human being. We, sometimes, encounter some ungrateful people who add injury to insult by not only not appreciating kindness, but repaying it with malevolence, spite and offence. In such circumstances, we should not lose our temper.
A civilized person appreciates the good things that occur in their life, recognizes benefactors and is grateful to them. Without the slightest hesitation, we should express our appreciation and gratitude by some return of kindness, not only to the people who have helped us, but to everyone around us. Such a humane attitude is certainly to make the world a better place for all.
