Success of talks rests on common interests

Six leaders held talks in Myanmar today aimed at solving the country’s political problems.
Myanmar people have long been waiting for the talks involving President U Thein Sein, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker Thura U Shwe Mann, Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Aung Myint, Commander in Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, National League for Democracy Chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Dr Aye Maung, representing ethnic political parties, hoping that they can fix the country’s pressing political issues.
These include constitutional amendment, free and fair elections, and stability after the election. It is clear that people are sick of the problems that continually hinder the development of the country.
It cannot be denied that political talks are important to solving issues. However, the success of the talks depends on all participants sharing common interests. If the participants make bargains in the common interests of the country and people, the talks will lead to an improvement of the political situation. It is therefore important that all participants place the common interests of the country and people ahead of any party or organization.
