Strong winds wreak havoc in Hpa-an

STRONG winds battered the Hpa-an village of Nganetpya on the evening of May 24, destroyiong homes and scattering bamboo along roads.
The Hpa-an General Administration Department (GAD), together with the township police and fire department, arrived on the scene to assist with clearing the bamboo from the roads.
“The wind has yet to subside. As far as I know, the roofs were ripped right off six homes. The monastery was also battered by the storm. Bamboo was also ripped off at the root by the winds and was strewn across the road,” said Daw Aye Aye Soe, a teacher from Nganetpya Village.
U Aung Ye Min, head of the Hpa-an Township Fire Services Department, explained that difficulties were encountered during while the debris was being cleared from the roads, and villagers had to call in assistance from the Fire Rescue Team, while rice storage facilities suffered rain damage after winds blew off their roofs, exposing rice to the rain.
