State Counsellor receives UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy

State Counsellor and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs Daw Aung San Suu Kyi received the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar Mrs Christine Schraner Burgener at 4:00 pm on 15 July 2019 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in
Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, the Special Envoy shared her experience of her recent visit to Rakhine State and briefed the State Counsellor of her work plan including submission of the report on the situation of Myanmar to the United Nations General Assembly. They also exchanged views on stepping up efforts for commencement of the repatriation process, social cohesion among the different communities in Rakhine State, improving the ground situation including ensuring security and greater freedom of movement, providing better access to basic needs such as education, and health care for all communities.
Also present at the meeting were U Kyaw Tin, Union Minister for International Cooperation and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.—MNA
