Shan United F.C., the defending champions of the Myanmar National League, left for Manila, the Philippines by Thai Airways yesterday to play a preliminary-stage match of the 2020 AFC Champions League against Philippines football club Ceres Negros.
The match between Shan United and Ceres Negros will start at 7:30 pm (Philippine Time) on 14 January at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
Eight Shan United officials have accompanied 18 players for the tourney.
Shan United will stay at the Armada Hotel in Manila during their stay in the Philippines, according to an official statement issued by the team.
Looking back on last year’s AFC Cup when they were placed in Group G, Ceres Negros F.C. beat Shan United at Shan United’s home stadium by a decisive 5-0 score. They also managed another 3-2 win at their home stadium at Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
But Shan Untied has prepared well and has selected a stronger squad this year, so the upcoming match promises to be a thrilling one.
The winning team will play an away game against Port F.C. of Thailand in the preliminary stage 2 match scheduled on 21 January.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
