Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met General Sir David Richards, GCB, CBE, DOS, former Chief of the Defence Staff of the United Kingdom, here on Sunday, according to officials.
They exchanged points of view with a focus on the country’s reforms, the role of the defence services in transition to democracy, developments of ongoing peace talks, and relationship between the army and the media.
The former British general graduated from Eastbourne College and then studied international relations at University Graduate College of Cardiff University in 1974. He joined the British Royal Artillery Regiment as an officer in 1971 and became the chief of the Defence Staff of the United Kingdom in 2010. His retirement came in 2013. Now is his third visit to Myanmar.—Myawady
