27 May 2020
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to General Saw Htot Lay for being elected as the Chairman of the KNU/KNLA Peace Council, a signatory of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, during its central committee meeting attended by its commanders and officers at its headquarters in Htotkawkoe (Wainawtayar) on 25 and 26 May 2020.
Despite recent changes in leadership roles, the KNU/KNLA Peace Council did not deviate from its peace policies; it released an announcement stating that it would keep on moving on the NCA path with genuine goodwill by joining hands together with relevant organizations and national brethren for Union peace-making process and peace and development of the region. I am pleased to note that the KNU/KNLA Peace Council’s position reflects its genuine high regard, desire and goodwill for peace. I send this message of congratulations expressing the hope that the Chairman and the KNU/KNLA Peace Council would continue participating in peace efforts to establish a Democratic Federal Union which is the aspiration of all the people, and to carry out activities for the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19, which is currently happening, together with the Union Government.
