1. The National-Level Central Committee on Prevention, Control and Treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) deems it necessary to continue containing the spread of COVID-19 and made an announcement on 13 May 2020 that all directives, notifications, requests to the public, and orders issued by Union-level institutions and ministries regarding the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 until 15-5-2020 (not including those that have been ordered to be eased) had been extended to 31 May 2020.
2. An announcement was made on 6 May 2020 for the first exemption of 75 units from the electricity bill between the dates of 1 May to 15 May, as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
3. Another exemption of 75 units will be deducted from the electricity bill between the dates of 16-5-2020 to 31-5-2020 as part of measures to prevent, control and treat COVID-19.
4. Thus, a total of 150 units from domestic consumption between the dates of 1 May 2020 to 31 May 2020 for residential homes, religious buildings, and domestic humanitarian groups (excluding embassies, UN agencies and international organizations) will be deducted from the electricity bill for those dates.
5. The following table illustrates the deduction to the electricity bill that will be implemented:

6. The electric unit deduction applies to the domestic consumption consumers outlined in the (a) category of the table above and the domestic civil society organizations under non-governmental organizations mentioned in (b) category of the table above.
7. The exemption only applies to electric consumption between the dates of 1 May 2020 to 31 May 2020. The consumption of 1 to 150 units will have the electricity rates and electric service fee exempted. Consumption of 151 units and above will have the cost for 150 units (K11,550) deducted from the electricity bill.
8. Domestic consumption of 151 units and above will have to be paid at the designated rates as normal. With the exception of domestic civil society organizations under non-governmental organizations in the non-domestic consumption category, all other consumers in that category will have to pay the electricity rate at the normal designated price.
9. The Ministry of Electricity and Energy’s metre clerks will read the electric metre at the designated monthly date and distribute the electricity bills on the usual dates. The exempted amount will be automatically deducted and the consumer has to keep the electricity bill document.
