Public Works, construction companies asphalting road sections in Kachin State

The authorities have allotted the budget for construction of 51-mile-long and 12-foot-wide road section of 121 miles long Nantsiaung-Myitkyina Road in Kachin State.
The construction tasks must be completed in 2014-15 fiscal year. The departments and organizations taking responsibility of construction for the road are to set completion of works in time and the road must meet standard, Kachin State Minister for Finance U Nyunt Aung told local people in a meeting in Mohnyin Township.
As Kachin State has plenty of jade and teak, transport of various kinds of heavy machinery extracting natural resources cause damage to roads. Last year, the government could not allot an adequate amount of fund to be spent on maintenance of the roads. Thus, the maintenance tasks could not affect long term durability of roads. That is why local people criticized poor maintenance tasks.
In 2014-15 fiscal year, the union government allotted K4.52 billion for construction of 24 miles and seven furlongs long asphalt road to be built by Special Construction Groups of Public Works while the State government, K4.005 billion for 26 miles and one furlong long asphalt road to be constructed by five private companies.
At present, groups of Public Works and companies are undertaking construction of asphalting the road sections respectively, an official of Kachin State Public Works told media.—GNLM-001
