Nay Pyi Taw, 12 Nov —President U Thein Sein attended the 17th ASEAN-Japan Summit held at the Sapphire Hall of Myanmar International Convention Centre Wednesday.
The event was attended Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, leaders of ASEAN members, ministers and the secretary general of ASEAN.
The meeting discussed promotion of ASEAN-Japan tourism through ASEAN-Japan Centre, trades, full implementation of ASEAN-Japan Free Trade Area, and regional cooperation through Thilawa Special Economic Zone where Japan is a major investor.
The state leaders at the summit exchanged views on the implementation of plans adopted at the 40th Anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit held in December 2013 in Japan, and promotion of disaster management programme of ASEAN and Japan.
The participants also discussed the preparatory process of the 3rd World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction which is scheduled to hold at Sendai, Japan from 14 to 18 March in 2015.
