One dead, three injured in vessel collision near Chaungtha Beach

One person was killed and three injured on 21 October after their boat, enroute from Chaungtha Beach to the White Sand Island, collided with a fishing vessel and capsized, two furlongs from Chaungtha beach in Pathein Township, Ayeyarwaddy Region.

The collision occurred around 10.50 p.m. on Monday. According to the police report, Thura Aung, who was at the helm of the boat, and three passengers, identified as Ma Shweyi Mon, Ma San Nu Wai, and Ma Kyal Sin Shin Thant, were injured in the mishap and taken to Chaungtha hospital. They were later transferred to the Pathein General Hospital, where one of the passengers, Ma San Nu Wai, succumbed to her injuries.
The Township Police have filed a case against Thura Aung for reckless operation of the boat under the Penal Code. —Ko Ko Maung (IPRD)
