Myanmar to directly export live fish to external markets in September

In a bid to boost income from the fishery export sector, Myanmar will directly ship live fish, prawns, and crabs to external markets in September.
Groupers, lobsters, shrimps, and crabs will be exported to Hong Kong, China (Taipei), Macau, South Korea, Japan, and China, said U Mike Aung Myint Tun, country manager, Super Search Investment (Hong Kong) Company Limited.
“The volume of live fish exports is much lower than frozen fishery products. The demand in domestic and foreign markets differs. Various kinds of fish of any size can be sold in the domestic market, while in the external markets, fish are required to meet market standards for quality and size. Live fish export costs more, but it fetches a good price,” he said.
“Training courses on techniques for packaging live fish are being conducted,” he added.
To adopt an efficient packaging system for live fish, two foreign experts will share their know-how with 26 trainees from 26 to 31 July at the office of the Myanmar Fisheries Federation. The courses will be offered in Myeik and Kawthoung towns.
In the push to promote fisheries exports, Taninthayi Region has been prioritized, followed by Rakhine State, and Yangon Region. Air transport has been chosen for fresh fish exports, said U Mike Aung Myint Tun. — Pwint Thitsar
