To mark 2019 Olympic Day, the Myanmar Judo Federation hosted its president’s cup for Junior and U-20 levels at Aung San Stadium
in Yangon yesterday.
President of Myanmar Judo Federation U Tun Tun attended the judo competition and also delivered a speech.
In his speech, U Tun Tun said the president’s cup of the Myanmar Judo Federation is part of the Myanmar Judo Federation’s long-term programme to sustainably produce new generations of judo athletes.
While promoting judo in Myanmar, holding such competitions for the new generation plays a crucial role, and the athletes in the competition are aiming to become the country’s heros in international events, U Tun Tun said.
The Myanmar Judo Federation is devoting great efforts to win gold medals at the 30th South East Asian Games, which is only 6 months away, hiring Shuji Ohshima Sensei, champion of 2010 World Judo Kata Championship, to train Myanmar’s Judo athletes.
At the 30th Southeast Asian Games, Myanmar’s judo team will take part in the three judo competitions: single, team and Kata.
The President of the Myanmar Judo Federation then urged athletes to prepare for the upcoming judo competitions, the All Universities Competition in July, States and Regions competitions at the end of July, and Japan Cup competition in September.
A total of 130 judo athletes from institutes of Sports and Physical Education of Mandalay, Yangon, Monywa, Taunggyi, Loikaw, and judo teams from Shwepyitha, Aung San, Dagon Seikkan, Yangon University, Mon State, Ayeyawady, Yangon National Swimming Pool and Dagon University took part in the event. — Saw Thien Win (Translated by Kyaw Zin Tun)
