MR to invite tender this year for upgrading YGN-MDY railway project phase-II

The tender will be invited this year for Yangon-Mandalay railway upgrading project phase-II — Toungoo-Mandalay railway project, it is learnt.
For the Toungoo-Mandalay railway upgrading project, the detailed design has already been developed. According to the project, ten tenders will be invited, said Myanma Railway (MR). The Yangon-Mandalay railway upgrading project is being implemented in two phases with JICA ODA loans and the national fund being spent. The first part of the project is Yangon–Toungoo which is about 166 miles long while the second part of the project is Toungoo-Mandalay which is about 219 miles long.
For the Toungoo-Mandalay railway upgrading project, the detailed design has been developed since 2018-2019 with the assistance of JICA’s Grant Aid.
MR has signed a contract with Construction for Consultancy Services (CMC) for Yangon-Mandalay railway upgrading project phase-II.
The engineering team started their job in 2019 for Yangon-Mandalay railway upgrading project phase-II, according to MR. MR is operating six express trains, two mail trains, four up and down Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw trains on Yangon-Mandalay railway. Upon completion of the whole upgrading project, the trains can run at a speed of 100 kilometres per hour (60 mph) on the Yangon-Mandalay railway road.
