A TWO-WEEK Myanmar marionette training course, conducted by Myanmar Upperland, concluded on 28 November in Mandalay’s Chanmyathazi Township. The course was sponsored by the Swiss Development Cooperation Association.
Patrons of the Myanma Marionette Association U Thein Naing and U Ye Dwe, counselor of the Swiss Embassy Ms Carin Salerno and director of the Goethe-Institut in Yangon Mr Franz Xaver Augustin gave keynote addresses at the completion ceremony.
The trainees and younger artists also paid traditional respect to the doyen marionette artists.
In the afternoon, cultural exchange discussions were held. One German marionette artist spoke about arts education and cultural exchange. Professors U Khine Tun and Daw Aye Sanda Aung of the Departments of Traditional Dance at the National Universities of Fine Arts and Culture in Yangon and Mandalay, respectively, discussed arts and entertainment.
In the evening, a German marionette show and a Myanmar marionette show by Yangon and Mandalay artists with a traditional Pyittainghtaung music troupe were held in Mandalay Square.
