The Labour Department and the International Organization for Migration jointly held a workshop on International Recruitment Integrity System (IRIS) yesterday morning of 28 May at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel in Yangon.
The directors of the Labour Department, IOM officials, and representatives from overseas employment recruitment agencies attended the workshop and held a discussion about IRIS.
“Overseas employment recruitment agencies need to obey international and domestic laws, rules, and regulations, while seeking jobs for migrant workers. Most of the migrant workers are from the lower classes, and they have to pay the overall cost. The workshop is aimed at eliminating the exploitation, abuse, and bullying of workers,” said U Aung Kyaw Than, a communication officer from IOM.
The workshop was held from 27 to 28 May. The managing directors of 35 job agencies attended the event, and they said that they will try to receive international certification under IRIS. —Myint Maung Soe
