Nay Pyi Taw, 15 April — Government troops have seized multiple strategic hill positions from Kokang insurgents in a major ongoing offensive.
With supporting fire from heavy weapons and tanks, military columns seized Point 1584 hill at an altitude of 5,100 feet (1,555 metres) despite repeated counterattacks from the insurgents.
While chasing insurgents, military columns also took control of Point 1586 hill before seizing Point 1845 hill at an altitude of 6,000 feet (1830 metres) on 9 April.
Military units also took over other small hills nearby, establishing control of the entire San Ta Aik Shun highland and pursuing insurgents retreating toward the Chinese border.
During the all-out offensives, government troops seized 44 bunkers, a variety of weapons and ammunition, as well as the bodies of two insurgents.
A total of 16 government soldiers have been killed and 110 wounded in the offensive that began 5 April.  Myawady
