Free vaccines against foot-and-mouth disease to be given to over 20,000 cattle in Meiktila

The Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department is providing free vaccines against foot-and–mouth disease to more than 20,000 cattle in Meiktila Township, said Dr Soe Naing, head of the Township LBVD.
“The department is implementing the campaign in cooperation with the World Organization for Animal Health. We will administer the free vaccinations to more than 20,000 cattle in Meiktila. The campaign will be held from 1 to 12 December,” he added.
“We will form trained staff into six groups for the free vaccination campaign. Each team will have five staff members. Each team will be led by a deputy head of the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department. So, there will be six members in each team. We have already administered free vaccinations to 4,123 cattle from 22 villages in seven village-tracts as of 2 December,” said Dr. Soe Naing.
There are more than 20,000 cattle in 147 villages in 36 village-tracts of Meiktila Township. The free vaccines against foot-and–mouth disease were provided in May, 2017 in cooperation with the Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department and the World Organization for Animal Health. The vaccination is being provided every six months, and this is the seventh time the free vaccination is being administered.
