The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation has announced an environmental plan that will regard former mining blocks in Khamti in Sagaing Region, Mogok in Mandalay Region and Lonekhin, Mohnyin and Hpakant in Kachin State as vacant land.
No licences will be extended or renewed for mining operations at those sites and future usage of that land will be determined by the Union and state goverments.
Licences for more than 2,500 jewellery mining blocks are expiring this month, according to the aforementioned ministry.
Licences for more than 300 mining blocks for precious minerals and metals are due to expire in September.
Mining licences for approximately 2,210 precious minerals and metals have expired between 1 April and the end of July.
