Empowerment through employment

Securing employment is the most important fundamental for the empowerment of young people in their lives. Jobs can move them toward developing great expectations for their future. They hope good jobs and, if possible, high salaries.
Creation of job opportunities is crucial for the stability and development of a country. The future of a country largely relies on the contributions of youth. They are precious resources of a country. A tiny percentage of Myanmar young people are learning abroad. Most of them are possibly looking to work in foreign countries after they complete their education.
No young people from middle-class families want to fall into unemployment. When they could not find a safe and sound job, they unavoidably have to migrate domestically or go overseas, resulting in a brain drain for the country. Sufficient youth employment and empowerment programmes should be initiated in every corner of the country to develop aspirations for the new generation. Young people aged 10-24 years account for around 30 per cent of the country’s population. If young people are confident of securing job when they become graduates, they will become more enthusiastic about going to school.
National strategies should be focused on promoting youth empowerment and leadership. Young people should be supported in their transition from school to work through the provision of employment promotion services such as internship opportunities and support to micro, small and medium-sized businesses.
Classroom teaching should be combined with relevant vocational training and skills-development opportunities for productive lives for future generations. It will help them create an effective bridge between the worlds of learning and of work. Therefore, employment opportunities for young people take a crucial role in helping them to build self-confidence and empowerment for their lives, as well as for the future of the country.
