Pansodan-Dala ferries are running regularly during Thadingyut holiday with taking safety measures as the weather bureau has alerted them to strong winds due to a depression in the Deltaic areas.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) warned the ships and fishing vessels along Myanmar coastal regions of the possible dangers from the depression. As a result of this, Yangon is experiencing continuous rainfall.
“Life-jackets are on Cherry ferries. The ships are warned not to leave the terminal during high wind conditions. Heavy rain at 11:40 am esterday caused five-minute delay for ferry service. Usually, ferry service run 46 times a day yet it depends on weather condition. Three Cherry ferries are running in turn. Cherry ferry staff ensures passenger comfort and safety. Additionally, they manage for the passengers to get on and off safely”, she continued. U Kyaw Nyein, chair of Dala Township motorboats supervision committee told that motorboats are warned during high wind conditions. With the depression warning, the number of passengers on board are seen lesser for motorboat services.
Due to unusual high-tide in Yangon River between 10 and 16 August, floods occurred in low-lying wards and jetties in Dala Township.
