Inauguration Of King Willem Alexander As Queen Beatrix Of The Netherlands AbdicatesAt the invitation of President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Thein Sein, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands as UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA) will pay a visit to Myanmar from 30 March to 1 April.
Queen Maxima was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 17 May 1971 as Maxima Zorreguieta. She passed her baccalaureate examinations at Northlands School in 1988. She graduated in economics from the Universidad Catolica Argentina in 1995.
Her Majesty Queen Maxima is married to King Willem-Alexander. The royal couple have three daughters, Princess Catherina-Amalia (the Princess of Orange), Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane.
King Willem-Alenxander and Queen Maxima are patrons of the Orange Fund, which was a gift from the Dutch people on the occasion of their wedding in 2002. Queen Maxima was a member of the Committee for Ethnic Minority Women’s Participation from 2003 to 2005. Queen Maxima has been a member of the Council of State since 2004. The Queen has chaired the Board of Trustees of the Prince Claus Chair since 2003. Queen Maxima has been honorary chair of the Money Wise Platform since 2010. Queen Maxima is a member of the Committee for Enterprise and Finance, which succeeded the Microfinance Council in 2011. Queen Maxima has been lobbying for years in the Netherlands and abroad to increase access to financial services, improve consumer protection and enhance financial literacy. In 2009 Queen Maxima was appointed the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA). Queen Maxima has been honorary chair of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion since 2011. In this capacity, she works primarily to strengthen the synergy between the UN and the G20 in the field of universal access to financial services, calling on her many years of experience to promote inclusive finance.
