Corn growers in Pwintbyu Township of Magway Region said they have earned a good profit due to the crop fetching higher prices this year compared with last year.
“A majority of farmers from the Mezali village-tract in Pwintbyu Township grow corn, bananas, chillies, onions, tomatoes, chick peas, and other vegetables on a commercial scale. Corn can be grown across three seasons — rainy, winter, and summer. This year, the yield of winter corn has been high and it is getting a good price. Last year, corn was priced at just K50-80. This year, the price has increased to K150-200. Therefore, growers are doing well financially. I made a profit of K1 million from corn this year,” said Ma Lwin Maw, a corn grower from Mezali village-tract.
