Coord meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw for star rating hotels in Myanmar

With an aim to raise the level of hotels in Myanmar and the service quality a coordination meeting on star rating hotels in Myanmar was held at Ministry of Hotels and Tourism yesterday morning.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Ohn Maung and officials, officials from related ministries, representatives from Myanmar Travel Association, Myanmar Hotelier Association, Myanmar market development association and foreign investment hotels association, foreign experts consisting of Dr. Drimitrios Koutoulas from World Travel Organization and Prof. Dr. Ng Yen Yen from Malaysia.
At the meeting Union Minister U Ohn Maung explained about the status of works conducted to increase number of international tourists entering Myanmar, previous star rating of hotels in Myanmar and arrangements to obtain thoughts, ideas and cooperation from international experts and private entities on a more complete star rating of hotels.
Next Dr. Drimitrios Koutoulas and Prof. Dr. Ng Yen Yen discussed about international hotel rating systems and appropriate rating criteria for Myanmar.
Meeting attendees also join in and providing suggestions and explanations.
A group to star rating hotels in Myanmar will be chaired by Myanmar Hotelier Association with members made up of Myanmar Travel Association, foreign investment hotels association and Myanmar market development association.
The group together with foreign experts will preliminarily visits hotels in Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, Bagan, Mandalay, Inle, Ngapali and
Kawthoung to draw up appropriate norms for star rating and will submit to the ministry for approval. —MNA
