Commerce Dy Minister attends trade meetings in Geneva, Switzerland

A Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister for Commerce U Aung Htoo attended fifty-third annual meeting of the Joint Advisory Group (JAG) on the International Trade Centre (ITC) on 2 July and 7th Global Review of Aid for Trade 2019 meeting and related meetings from 3 to 5 July in Geneva, Switzerland.
On 3 July the Deputy Minister and party attended the opening ceremony of 7th Global Review of Aid for Trade 2019 meeting and related meeting “Seeing impact and looking future on EIF Past and Future” conducted by World Trade Organization (WTO) and a discussion on implementation of Cultural Community Tourism sector in Kayah State conducted with the support of the Netherlands.
On 4 July the Deputy Minister participated as a panelist in the “Economic diversification and blue economy program” and discussed with international leaders on Myanmar’s participation according to Fisheries Subsidies Agreement and preventive work process on excessive catch and utilization of fish resources.
While attending the meetings the Deputy Minister met and discussed separately with WTO Trade Policy Review (TPR) Division Director Mr Willy Alfaro on technical support for Myanmar’s Second Trade Policy Review work process, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Director General Mr Francis Gurry on technical support for establishing IP Office in Myanmar, Switzerland Embassy Head of Trade Promotion Unit Ms Monica Rabiolo and ITC Executive Director Ms Arancha Gonzalez on Myanmar Tourism Sector. In addition to this the Deputy Minister also met with United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) ITC Division Director Ms Shamika Sirimanne and discussed works related to e-commerce strategy formulation in Myanmar.
At the meetings the Myanmar delegation was accompanied by the Permanent Representative/Ambassador and officials of Myanmar Permanent Representative Office to WTO. — MNA
