Four workers were killed in an explosion at a coal mine on Monday in the Htoo Han Thit company compound in Khon Thar village-tract, Kalay Township, Sagaing Region.
According to the police, three separate groups of five night-shift workers were in the mine when the explosion occurred.
Friction between two iron rails caused a spark, which came into contact with methane gas and set off an explosion near a group of five workers.
One worker, who had left the work site just before the explosion as he was feeling unwell, escaped unhurt. The remaining four workers from the group were killed, while four workers from another group were injured. They are undergoing medical treatment at Kalewa Township’s people’s hospital.
The Township Management Committee Chairman U Nyi Nyi rushed to the scene and spoke to the injured workers, in addition to making the necessary arrangements.
