Banana growers in NyaungU District, Mandalay Region, said they earned a handsome profit from the sale of Pheegyan, a popular banana variety in Myanmar that looks like a large ladyfinger, this harvest season.
This variety of banana is usually cultivated in March-April and harvested during the same months.
U Aung Htay, a banana grower from Letpanchepaw Village in NyaungU Township, said, “Growers in the village cultivate the marketable Pheegyan banana on a commercial scale. Currently, we sell a bunch of bananas between Ks550 and Ks800.”
Bananas produced from Letpanchepaw Village are sent mostly to wholesalers in Bagan-NyaungU, Pakokku, Myingyan and Ngathayauk.
