The ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) has postponed its 10th ASEAN Para Games for the third time to 3-9 October in the Philippines.
The 2020 ASEAN Para Games were originally scheduled to take place from 18 to 24 January and first pushed back to 21-27 March due to technical problems.
The APSF and the Philippines Local Organizing Committee announced the biennial Games’ second postponement from 26 May to 6 June last month due to the coronavirus. The motto for the 2020 Games is “We Win As One”.
The ASEAN Para Games is a biannual multi-sport event held after every Southeast Asian Games involving disabled athletes from the current 11 Southeast Asian countries.
Participating athletes have a variety of disabilities ranging from spastic, cerebral palsy, mobility disabilities, visual disabilities, amputated to intellectual disabilities. The ASEAN Para Games is under the regulation of the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) with supervision by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and the Asian Paralympic Committee and is traditionally hosted by the country where the Southeast Asian Games took place.
Its headquarters is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where the first ASEAN Para Games took place. On 14 to 20 January 2014, Myanmar hosted its seventh games in Nay Pyi Taw. — Kyaw Khin
