14.6 tons of illegal timber seized in Indaw

Forest officials, on Friday evening, seized 14.6 tons of illegally harvested teak logs in Indaw Township, Katha District, Sagaing Region, according to the Township Forest Department.
At around 4.30 p.m. on 10 May, a combined team of forest police and officials of the forest department conducted a raid on the residence of Maung Khine in Thaungmyin Village where they discovered 26 teak logs, 123 pieces of teak timbers, an unregistered timber mill, and a chainsaw.
The team also found 45 logs of teak beside the
Maeza Creek in the north of the village.
Maung Khine has been charged with violating the existing law. Police are
continuing their investigations to arrest others connected to the case.
Officials have been making a concerted effort to clamp down on the illegal timber trade in the region.—Lu Aung (Katha) (Translated by Khaing Thanda Lwin)
