THE Ninth International Youth Film Festival 2015 kicked off on 28 November in Kitami, Hokaido Island in Japan. Forty-four short films – each no longer than three minutes in duration – were selected from among more than 300 short films produced in Taiwan and 16 countries across Asian. Sixteen prizes were awarded, which included films made by Myanmar citizens.
Maung Kyaw Thiha and Maung Than Naung Win, both students at Laurel Art Academy in Myanmar took home awards.
Each filmmaker was aged between 15 and 17 and the theme set for 2015 was ‘My Happiest Time.” Next year’s competitors will create films based around the opposite them of ‘What I dislike’.
“It is a trip that inspired new ideas for me as well for children,” said Director Ko Pauk, leader of the delegation to the film festival.
