Yangon-Mandalay express train to take only 12 hours by 2016

THE Yangon-Mandalay express train is planned to take only 12 hours from the beginning of 2016 according to the Myanmar Railways of Ministry of Rails Transportation. The duration will be far more convenient for travellers, said an MR official.
The current ride takes 14 hours at a speed of 65 km per hour (40 mph). Before that the ride had been 16 hours.
MR has been implementing the necessary construction work with heavy machinery, especially on the Yangon-Mandalay railroad as it is the main line. The work began in the 2013-2014 budget year and is currently 60% completed.
