BLACKOUTS in Yanbye, Rakhine State, on 16 April were due to damaged switches and conductors in 13 lamp posts in Kyaukphyu district, according to a probe into the cause.
Local cattle boys were reportedly using their slingshots to break 22 electric devices on lamp posts, with officials saying that electricity was restored on 18 April.
Local authorities took measures to educate the public that such acts would leave the persons responsible at risk of being arrested for causing damage to public property.
