VP U Henry Van Thio holds talks with Bago authorities on flood protection measures

Vice President U Henry Van Thio, chairman of National Natural Disaster Management Committee, held talks with the Bago Region Chief Minister and ministers on relief measures for flood victims in Bago yesterday.
In his address, the Vice President stressed the need of short-term and long-term flood prevention plans, saying that the risk management committee is committed to providing necessary assistance to disaster-affected areas.
Next, Chief Minister U Win Thein and regional ministers, Union Minister Dr Win Myat Aye, Deputy Ministers Maj-Gen Than Htut and U Kyaw Myo reported on flood mitigation measures, disaster preparedness plan and relief aid.
In his concluding remarks, the Vice President called on the regional departments to return unused lands to original owners and called for correctness and accuracy of statistics which are essential for regional planning and development.
According to sources, K1.7billion had been distributed to the areas where natural disasters occur as of 17 July. Next, the Vice President inspected dredging works being undertaken along Bago River and Mazin and Gaunghsaykyun lake to protect Bago from flooding.  He also visited Mazin Dam, Kambawzathadi Palace, Bago-Sittaung canal in Thanatpin, Kamase jetty and Ohnne-Walpayat canal in Kawa.— Myanmar News AgencyDSC_0273 ေရွးေဟာင္းသုေတသန ျပတိုက္အတြင္းၾကည့္ရႈ (1) 7
