VICE-President Dr Sai Mauk Kham attended the celebration of the 64th Anniversary of Kayah State Day at Kyaukthar square in Loikaw, Kayah State yesterday.
Also present at the celebration were Union Ministers Lt-Gen Ko Ko and U Soe Thane, Kayah State Chief Minister U Khin Maung Oo, the Speaker of Kayah State Hluttaw, union deputy ministers, state ministers, parliamentarians, officials and locals.
First, the Vice-President read out the message sent by the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on the 64th Anniversary of Kayah State Day, followed by U Taw Yal, Kayah State Minister for Planning and Economy, who also read out the messages sent by the Speaker of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw and Pyithu Hluttaw.
In his address on Kayah State Day, Chief Minister U Khin Maung Oo quoted President U Thein Sein as saying it is imperative to build national unity in the country as disintegration of national unity could lead to the disintegration of the country.
After the ceremony, the Vice-President observed booths on display to mark the Kayah State Day and presented awards to winners of sports events held in commemoration of the celebration.
The first celebration of Kayah State Day was held on 15 January, 1952.  In the afternoon, the Vice-President and party visited Taungkwe Pagoda and made cash donation.
