As Chairman of the National Natural Disaster Management Committee, Vice President U Nyan Tun on Friday gave support and encouragement to flood victims in the district of Thayawady, Bago Region, officials said.
At three rescue camps in the district, the vice president spoke words of encouragement to the victims and provided them with medicines and supplies of food and drink.
After inspecting inundated plantations in a village, he was briefed by Bago Region Chief Minister U Nyan Win on damage caused by the recent floods, relief supplies, rescue camps and recovery measures.
Speaking at the briefing, Vice President U Nyan Tun pledged his government’s assistance to the formation of natural disaster management teams at region level, stressing the need to manage local and international financial assistance.
The vice president also inspected the general hospital in the township of Zeegone and comforted patients there.
