First, Vice President U Myint Swe was presented a traditional Naga headdress by Chairman U Kay Hsai.
U Yawn Yang chaired the ceremony while U Aung Win, U Ant Taw, U Sin Yone and U Pa Soe Gyi were other members present on the occasion.
According to the schedule, the ceremony was opened by saluting the national flag, followed by a new year’s message from the chairman.
Next, the vice president delivered a 2018 Naga Traditional New Year’s greeting and mentioned that he was honoured and happy to attend the ceremony as a government representative. At the Naga Traditional New Year ceremony, ethnic Naga nationals living in the Naga region, as well as in other parts of Myanmar, greet each other with good wishes.
“To implement the policies of the government such as national reconciliation, internal peace, establishment of a democratic federal union and improvement in the social living standards of the majority of the people, raising the social living standards of the ethnic national brothers and sisters in regions such as the Naga Self-administered Zone is important and plays a major role.
“For the union to develop in a balanced way, peace needs to prevail throughout the whole country. The government is conducting national reconciliation, peace and stability processes throughout the whole union by holding the Union Peace Conference – 21st Century Panglong,” stated the vice president.
“Further, ethnic nationals and people need to strive together and perform their duties, without differentiating between hills, plains, states and regions, for the establishment of a democratic federal union.
“To ensure the development of the Naga Self-administered Zone, a hill region, ethnic brothers and sisters must work together with the government, the Sagaing Region government and the Naga Self-Administered Zone Leading Body. Each person must have a sense of dutifulness and perform their duties with goodwill. The same should be done in the administrative, education and health sectors. Departmental officials who have come to serve from far-off places must work together with goodwill for the development of their ethnic national brothers and sisters.
“The Naga capital of Lahe and Khamti Town are now linked by the Sinthe-Lahe Road, which is accessible in all weather conditions, while the Lahe-Nanyun Road has been upgraded, and the efforts of the respective departments must be recognised. Efforts will be made for all-round development in the education and health sectors and for the ease of transport in the Naga region in the road and communications sector,” he added.
“It is an auspicious time for ethnic Naga nationals, and we pray that the wishes of Naga ethnic nationals and ethnic nationals of the union are fulfilled, and pray for their physical and mental health,” said the vice president.
