Vice President U Henry Van Thio inspects disaster preparedness in Kungyangon

Vice President U Henry Van Thio inspected cyclone shelters yesterday in Kungyangon, an area in Ayeyarwaddy Region that was hit hard by Cyclone 2008. During the visit U Henry Van Thio heard reports on preparedness and quick response to disasters and raising awareness in the township.
U Henry Van Thio stressed the need to carry out preparedness drills as part of efforts for using the infrastructures effectively. The vice president visited iron-reinforced cyclone shelters built in Laekhtekon and Hmawbi villages in the township.
He also went to the Relief and Resettlement Department in Yangon and inspected the central store, urging authorities not to waste stored aid provided by the State. During his inspection, U Henry Van Thio was accompanied by Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye and Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Maj-Gen Aung Soe.—Myanmar News Agency
