The education sector budget has been increasing year by year, Vice President Dr Sai Mauk Kham said Saturday, in a meeting with faculty at Western Yangon University.
Higher learning institutions should be furnished with necessary teaching aids, the vice president said, urging teachers to concentrate on continuous self-improvement so as to nurture academically excellent students. He also pointed out the need to establish mutually beneficial links with overseas universities.
The vice president took a guided tour of the university, inspecting the geological booth, the library and the language lab.
Opened on 29 June 2001, Western Yangon University has nearly 30,000 students.
It is one of around 180 universities and colleges across the country.
