Nay Pyi Taw, 29 July — Vice President U Nyan Tun on Wednesday addressed Southeast Asian tourism ministers gathered in Nay Pyi Taw to discuss cooperative strategies to draw more visitors to the region.
The 3rd Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) Tourism Ministerial Meeting and the 2nd Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Tourism Ministerial Meeting began on Tuesday.
The meetings aim to boost visitor numbers and solve problems in the tourism industry. CLMV cooperation was initiated in 2004 to reduce the development gap in the region, and to encourage economic cooperation.
The vice president said Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam will market the region as a single tourism destination by providing easier access for visas and improving transportation networks.
U Nyan Tun said member countries would also focus on the emergence of a single-visa system to promote the tourism industry.
He congratulated tourism ministries from the respective countries on their cooperation.—MNA
