Union Information Minister expresses his readiness to promote media freedom in Myanmar

UNION Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint informed media members in the country of his readiness to focus on the promotion of Myanmar media freedom in cooperation with print, broadcast and internet media entities at a ceremony to mark World Press Freedom Day in Yangon yesterday.
In his address, the Union minister highlighted the importance of the strenuous efforts of media workers while addressing prominent domestic issues, saying that the progress achieved up until now has been brought about by their efforts.
Media organisations as well as individuals are able to promote media freedom in the country, he added.
It was the fifth World Press Freedom Day ceremony observed in Myanmar. The theme of this year’s celebration was Access to Information and Fundamental Freedoms: This is Your Right!
Next, the Union minister met with responsible persons from MJA, MJN, MJU and BNI and held talks on a wide range of matters including media freedom, difficulties private media  are facing, access to information, the rights of journalists and holding workshops and seminars on media development.
While meeting with representatives of the Myanmar Motion Picture Organisation, the Union minister heard reports on difficulties in the movie industry and preparations for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Myanmar motion picture in 2020.
