Union Attorney-General receives UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict

Union Attorney-General U Tun Tun Oo received UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict Ms. Pramila Patten and party at Union Attorney General office guest hall on 7 February afternoon.
At the meeting the Union Attorney General spoke of the involvement of Union Attorney General Office in the amending and enacting laws and pursuing cases against crimes. A bill on prevention of violence against women was being drawn up in accordance with international conventions by relevant ministry and will be submitted to the Hluttaw. Actions against crimes of violence against women are being tackled according to prevailing laws and special laws. The nationwide ceasefire agreement signed between Myanmar government and ten ethnic armed organisations includes rules and regulations on protecting women and civilians, said the Union Attorney General. The UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict said a joint declaration on sexual violence against women in conflict was signed with Myanmar government on 7 December 2018 and close cooperation will be conducted to implement the joint declaration. Supports will be provided to review, assess and suggest in improving the laws and training courses for relevant persons to conduct cases effectively, said the UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Attorney General U Win Myint, Permanent Secretary Daw Nu Nu Yin and directors general Daw Khin Cho Ohn and Dr. Thida Oo. — MNA (Translated by Zaw Min)
