Union Conference Preparatory committee to hold second meeting with UNFC in Thailand
PREPARATORY subcommittee-2 for the Union Peace Conference (21st Century Panglong) is set to meet a delegation for political negotiation-DPN formed by the United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC) in Chiang Mai, Thailand soon, said U Hla Maung Shwe, secretary of the subcommittee.
“We will meet with the DPN for the second time in the third week of this June”, said the secretary, adding that the upcoming talks with the DPN is aimed at ensuring participation of the UNFC in the Peace Conference.
Preparatory subcommittee-1 had a meeting on the review of the amendment to the political dialogue framework for ethnic armed organisations who have not signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) to take part in the Conference. Dr Min Zaw Oo, member of the preparatory committee for the Union Peace Conference (21st Century Panglong) said that the review on the framework is set to continue and drafts will be developed, adding that works are underway to allow non-ceasefire groups to revise the framework and make discussions at the conference while the subcommittee-2 is holding talks with them.
According to the committee member, UPDJC and JICM are responsible for approving the draft in accordance with the NCA and those who want to take part in the meeting are required to sign the NCA and so become members of the UPDJC.
According to sources, Dr Tin Myo Win, chairman of the preparatory committee, and party are also set to meet with UWSA, Mongla and the NDAA.
Regarding talks with NCA non-signatories, a meeting between the committee chairman and leaders of UWSA, Mongla and the NDAA is expected to be held on 17 or 18 June in Mongla or Kengtung, depending on the weather.
