UN special rapporteur visits Sittwe

UNITED Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Myanmar Ms Yanghee Lee visited a relief camp in Mingan ward, Sittwe, Rakhine State yesterday.
The UN’s special rapporteur met with local Rakhine people who reported on their needs in regard to health and education. The rapporteur then viewed the relief camp.
Next, Ms Yanghee Lee and party held talks with a Muslim community at the Madrasa Islamia school in Aung Mingala ward and visited a basic education school in the ward.
During her stay in Sittwe, the UN’s special rapporteur also held talks with local Rakhine people, U Maung Maung Ohn, chair of Rakhine State Hluttaw Ethnic Affairs Study Committee and Sittwe-based international organisations at the Sittwe Hotel.
In the evening, Ms Yanghee Lee and party met with officials of UN agencies at the UNDP Office in Sittwe.
She left Sittwe and arrived in Yangon at 7.25 pm.
