The Union Election Commission and the Election Commission of India collaborated on a training course for electoral planning held at the UEC Office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
UEC Chairman U Hla Thein opened the training with a speech. He remarked that this is the 5th capacity-building training conducted for UEC staff. He said the two of the previous trainings were held in India and two in Myanmar, while attended by 100 trainees.
The UEC Chairman said they are working hard to ensure the 2020 General Elections will be free, fair, transparent, and trusted by all. He said the electoral planning training will support systematic planning for the pre-election period, the actual election period, and the post-election period.
The UEC Chairman said effective planning is important in ensuring elections go by smoothly. He urged the participants to pay attention to the training seriously and learn from the strengths offered by India’s planning methods.
Next, Dr. Noor Mohammad, Senior Consultant of the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) delivered some remarks, saying that the electoral planning process is critically important and it is equally vital to identify the challenges presented during the election phases. He said this will allow the participants to draw up programmes suitable for Myanmar and added that India’s Election Commission will hold a training for utilizing technology. This was followed by a group documentary photo. The opening event for the training was attended by UEC members, trainers from IIIDEM, and officials from the UEC Office. —MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
