Union Election Commission Chairman U Tin Aye met a delegation of the Club de Madrid comprising former chancellor of Austria Mr Alfred Gusenbauer and former prime minister of Bhutan Jigme Yoser here on Wednesday, officials said.
At the call, the chairman explained the organizational structure and functions of the commission, the electoral systems and a brief account of the history of elections in the country.
In response to queries about the preparations for the upcoming elections and possible difficulties, U Tin Aye expounded on measures taken for individual voting rights and programmes for voter education and training.
The UEC and the Club de Madrid discussed how to ensure free and fair election campaigns and deter the exploitation of faiths for votes.
The commission has urged political parties to make constructive cooperation with the winning party in all sectors of national development.
